Nashville Magnet Schools Listing:

Magnet schools have a specialized program and voluntary enrollment. Students may enroll in these programs from throughout Davidson County. Some magnets have academic entrance requirements that students must meet. There are three magnets with academic entrance requirements:

• Meigs Middle School (5-8)
• Hume-Fogg High School (9-12)
• Martin Luther King High School (7-12)

These requirements are:

85 or above average for the spring semester of last year and the 1st grade period of the current school year with no failing grades, AND current Metro students must have achievement test (CRT) scores ADVANCED in both math and reading, and non Metro students must have reading and math stanine scores on a norm-referenced achievement test equaling 14 or above (no rounding).

Other magnet schools are theme based and students are selected by lottery. Thematic magnets include:

• Carter Lawrence Math and Science Elementary (K-4)
• Hull Jackson Montessori Elementary ( PS-4)
• Jones Paideia Elementary (K-4)
• Creswell Arts Magnet (5-8)
• Head Math and Science Middle (5-8)
• John Early Paideia Middle (5-8)
• Rose Park Math and Science (5-8)
• East Literature (5-12)
• Pearl Cohn High School Business and Communications (9-12)
• Nashville School of the Arts (9-12)

Students must apply for all magnet programs. A lottery is held to select the students. Nashville School of the Arts is the one exception to the lottery. Students must fill out an application and complete one of the three other steps. Students may audition, write an essay, or participate in an interview. Seventy percent (70%) of the students will be selected by audition, and thirty percent (30%) by essay or interview. There is no lottery for NSA admission.

Parents must provide their own transportation for students in magnet schools. MTA has buses that also provide transportation. There is assistance with the costs for MTA transportation for students on free or reduced lunch.

All students must apply for a magnet school. Magnet school applications are available at 2601 Bransford Avenue; Nashville, TN. or on the Magnet schools webpage. Applications received after the lottery will be added to the waiting list. Waiting lists created by the lottery will be eliminated after the third day of school in August.
